The following are some of the acknowledged Kawa, or protocols, of Kopinga Marae:

Do not sit on the tables ANYWHERE

Do not smoke in the Whare Kai 

Do not throw food AT ALL 

Do not pass food over anyones head

Do not wear shoes in the Whare Hui

Do not smoke in the Whare Hui

Do not eat kai (food) in the Whare Hui

Do not jump on mattresses in the Whare Hui

Do not hang clothes on the pictures in the Whare Hui

Do not hang clothes on the poupou (Carvings) in the Whare Hui

Do not drink in the Whare Hui

Do not run around inside the Whare Hui

Do not walk over peoples legs, ask them to move them

Do not walk in front of a speaker

Do not throw blankets over others

Do not drink in the Whare Hui

Do not chew gum

Do not wear hats in the Whare Hui or Whare Kai

Do not sit on pillows ANYWHERE

Do not take photographs in the whare hui
