The Donut ideas for students

The Donut is a good way to get students share their ideas with others, particularly with those outside of their own peer group. This activity can be extended to reporting back as well, where students have to report back to a group or the class on the ideas of others. Another extension idea, for older students, is where students have to represent the idea(s) of others and convince the class or group, of a view that they personally do not hold.

Arrange the class in two circles, one inside the other.

Those in the inner circle face a partner from the outer circle and share ideas related to a question posed with partners.

Outer circle moves around.

Maybe to the next person or maybe past three or four potential partners.

New partners share both their own and their previous partner's ideas.

 Continue changes of partners.
